On September 21, 2023, the University of Miami School of Law’s White & Case International Arbitration L.L.M. Program and International Arbitration Institute invites ILS Members to the 2023 White & Case International Arbitration Lecture on “ICSID Arbitration: Past, Present and Future” featuring Meg Kinnear, Secretary-General of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
International investment law and dispute settlement have been amongst the most dynamic areas of international law in recent decades. This lecture will examine the origins of investment protection, highlight recent reforms to investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) procedure, address some of the misunderstandings about the topic and discuss some of the challenges that lay ahead. It will also consider the role of ISDS in attracting and retaining foreign direct investment, as governments seek to establish policy, legal and institutional environments that are conducive to mobilizing private capital.
