Please join The Florida Bar International Law Section for its webinar, “PPE Transactions in a Pandemic: Achieving Compliance and Identifying Fraud,” on Thursday, April 22, 2021, starting at 12:00 PM Eastern. The Webinar, featuring an incredible group of panelists, including ILS heavy-weights Robert Becerra (ILS Chair), James Meyer (ILS Chair-Elect), and Peter Quinter (ILS Past-Chair), will discuss the pandemic phenomena of fraud in the purchase, sale, and distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (“PPE”), which has become a multi-billion dollar market during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Among the topics that will be discussed are the potential dangers from quality problems to fraud involved in engaging in the PPE market and due diligence to reduce those risks; the issues involving customs and trade authorities in both the countries of export and import, including both Customs and Border Protection and the Food & Drug Administration, which may ruin what otherwise would be a profitable transaction; and the proper contracting principles to avoid fraud and compliance issues. Great Success for the Mid-Year Executive Council Meeting
On March 12, 2021, the International Law Section successfully held its Mid-Year Executive Council Meeting, which was held outdoors live at Jungle Island in Miami, and also via Zoom. Following the meeting was a cocktail reception, once again outdoors, with a great spread and, of course, cocktails. The Executive Council enjoyed seeing all those who attended live, who interacted and networked with each other, of course with masks and social distancing. Those who attended live received ILS masks, ILS hand sanitizer, and a hard copy of the newest issue of the International Law Quarterly, focusing on Digital Law. It was also good to see all those who attended the meeting via Zoom, including a large number of past chairs of our Section, who remain ex-officio voting members of the Executive Council. During the meeting, the Council approved a collaborative agreement with the Quebec Bar Association. The Executive Council also heard the ILS committee reports, outlining the good work being done by ILS members despite the challenges of the pandemic, which hopefully, with increasing vaccinations, will soon become, not a pandemic, but just a very bad memory. Below are a few pictures taken during the event.
