ILS Chair’s News & Notes
Dear ILS Members,
Why use a calendar to figure if it is Friday, when you can just wait for your Gazette?
We are happy to announce that Registration is now LIVE for the events at our Leadership Retreat being held November 6-8 at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort. You will find a registration link below in this week’s Gazette. Also, don’t forget to register for your room by October 16 with the Hyatt to get our ILS discounted rate. A link for that is below as well, and is different than registering for Retreat events. Also, let me hear from ILS members who want to give an “ILS Talk” at the Retreat, patterned after “Ted Talks” where you can give a 15 minute speech to our audience on the topic of your choice. Just let me know your intent to participate, the title of your presentation and a one word description, as we will be applying for CLE for these Talks. We also look forward at the Retreat to our luncheon presentation with Nelson Luis and Andrew Bernstein of EisnerAmper, who will present on fraud risks during the pandemic. Although the Retreat is live, virtual attendance opportunities will be available. The Resort has strict COVID-19 safety guidelines, which you can read by clicking on the link below as well.
There will be another installment of our Lunch & Learn Series on October 27 with our guest ILS member and Florida Bar Certified Foreign Legal Consultant Carolina Obarrio of Veritas Assurance Partners. Please join us and RSVP to what I promise will be an interesting interview of Carolina and her journey as an international practitioner.
In member news, we congratulate ILS member Jose Sariego with ILS Regional Sponsor Bilzin Sumberg for being appointed Co-Chair of the International Corporate Counsel Committee of the ABA Section of International Law. Send us your news so that we can let everyone in the Section know your activities and accomplishments.
Remember, the iLaw2021 Steering Committee is still soliciting proposals for the iLaw2021, our flagship annual conference, being held live at the JW Marriott Marquis on February 26. They want to hear from you! Likewise, save the date for the annual ILS Richard DeWitt Memorial Vis Pre-Moot, being held virtually February 27 and hosted by JAMS.
Lastly, our Section congratulates the University of Miami School of Law’s International Moot Court team for being awarded the third-best respondent brief at The International Commercial Arbitration Competition organized by the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and University of El Rosario (Colombia). UM was the only U.S. school that participated in the competition.
If you know someone, either in or out of your firms, who is not a member of our Section and is an international practitioner, please encourage them to join our dynamic Section!
Have a great weekend!
