ILS Chair’s News & Notes

Dear ILS Members,
Might as well set it on the calendar: If you are getting the Gazette, it must be Friday.
In this issue, you will see that the iLaw2021 Steering Committee is soliciting members and topics for our annual flagship conference being held on February 26, 2021 at the JW Marriott Marquis in downtown Miami. Send in your ideas, and get involved in what has become your Section’s preeminent international law conference in Florida and one of the best in the country.
Please attend part III of the webinar series “A Movement of the Heart” moderated by ILS Executive Council member Neha Dagley, on August 20 and 21. This installment will feature Australia’s first indigenous consul-general for the U.S. In addition, the International Bar Association will be holding a virtual conference entitled “IBA 2020-Virtually Together,” the IBA’s first ever virtual conference taking place during the month of November. Also, ILS Section sponsor JAMS will be sponsoring two webinars being held August 20th and September 14th, on “Challenges and Best Practices in International Arbitration of Patent Validity Disputes” and “Global Construction Dispute Resolution Update-2020,” respectively.
I would like to thank all those who attended August 12th’s ILS Lunch&Learn via Zoom, featuring our guest, ILS member Gilbert Squires. Conversations with Gilbert are always interesting and fascinating. Kudos to Fiduciary Trust International for continuing to host our ILS Lunch&Learns. Stay tuned for news on our next installment!
Lastly, the ILS will be having its Leadership Retreat the weekend of November 6-8, to be held both live and via Zoom for those who wish to participate remotely. To that extent, the ILS has created a survey to gather feedback from ILS members regarding an in-person vs. remote event. Please click on the link below and take the survey. Stay tuned for more exciting news in the Gazette on our Retreat which will be held with social distancing and masking guidelines in place! In the meantime, Save the Date!
Keep sending in any news items regarding ILS members and their accomplishments. The Section wants to hear from you.
Stay safe, healthy, and enjoy the weekend.
Sincerely yours,
Robert J. Becerra
